Hyderabad to Bengaluru: Planning Your 2026 Swimathon Travel

If you're a Hyderabad-based swimmer eyeing an out-of-state event, the Bergman Swimathon BLR is a strong target: it runs Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Nelligudde Kere in Ramanagara, about 35 km from central Bengaluru, with distances from a 500m kids' category up to 4 km across multiple age groups. It's part of the same weekend as the Bergman 102 and Olympic Triathlons (Sept 6), so if you've got triathlete friends racing the next day, this makes for an easy joint trip.

Getting there

Hyderabad to Bengaluru is a well-served route:

  • Flights: Roughly 1 hour, multiple daily options into Kempegowda International Airport (BLR). This is the fastest option if you want to minimize travel fatigue before race day.
  • Train: Several direct trains run the route in 8–12 hours depending on the service — a reasonable overnight option if you'd rather sleep through the journey and arrive fresh the next morning.
  • Road: Roughly 570 km / 9–10 hours by car. Only worth it if you're combining the trip with other stops along the way, since it eats into recovery time before an open-water swim.

Since the race venue is in Ramanagara, not central Bengaluru, factor in an additional 45–60 minutes from BLR airport or the city to Nelligudde Kere — don't book a landing time that leaves you rushing straight to a race briefing.

Timing your arrival

For a swim-only trip, arriving the evening before is generally enough — this isn't an altitude race requiring acclimatization days. That said, a short shake-out swim isn't possible in an unfamiliar lake the morning of, so if you can arrive with a full day to spare, use it to:

  • Scout the venue and get a feel for the water entry/exit points
  • Do an easy pool or open-water session elsewhere nearby if the race venue isn't accessible pre-race
  • Adjust to Bengaluru's cooler mornings compared to Hyderabad, which can catch swimmers off guard in the water

What to pack beyond the basics

  • Wetsuit, if you're using one for open water — don't assume you can rent one locally.
  • Anti-chafe balm and goggles with a spare pair — always travel with a backup pair of goggles for any open-water event; a strap snapping the morning of is a common, avoidable disaster.
  • Layered clothing for the pre-dawn wait — early September mornings near Ramanagara's open countryside can be noticeably cooler than Hyderabad city mornings.
  • Cash and ID — smaller expo/bib-collection counters at regional venues don't always have smooth card payment setups.

Turning it into a short trip, not just a race

Ramanagara itself is known for dramatic rocky hills and a slower pace than Bengaluru city — if you've got an extra day either side of race day, it's a pleasant place to decompress rather than immediately fighting Bengaluru traffic back to the airport. If you'd rather stay closer to the city, Electronic City or south Bengaluru hotels put you roughly 30–40 minutes from the venue with easier access to city amenities for the rest of your trip.

Logistics checklist

  • Book flights/trains at least 3–4 weeks out — early September is a popular travel window and fares climb fast closer to the date.
  • Confirm your race-day transport to Nelligudde Kere in advance; it's not a walk-from-hotel venue.
  • Build in a buffer day post-race if you can, especially if you're flying same-day — open-water swims leave you more drained than the distance alone suggests.
